Wessex is a Branch of the British Sugarcraft Guild and has about 20 members. We are a group of enthusiastic sugarcrafters of all abilities, from beginners to the more experienced, and we are always delighted to see new members and visitors to our meetings. Based in South Dorset, our members come from Dorchester, Weymouth and Portland and surrounding areas.
We meet every month (except July ). In December we usually meet for a Christmas meal. We have a wide variety of demonstrations which show all aspects of the art of sugarcraft. These are given by local, national and international demonstrators. We also have occasional workshops, so that members can enjoy a “hands on” experience and have the opportunity to have professional tuition in a particular skill.
The evening takes the form of a short business meeting followed by a demonstration or mini workshop. We have a break for refreshments and informal chat.
The annual subscription, which is due in March, costs £35 of which £25 is the National levy and £10 goes to Wessex Branch . We try to raise funds throughout the year to supplement the Branch income, as the cost of obtaining experienced demonstrators from across the country is very expensive. This helps to keep the Branch subscription at a low level.
There is a door fee of £5.00 per month, including refreshments. Visitors entrance fee is £7.00
The Branch secretary writes a monthly newsletter which is distributed at the meeting.
